Having YouTube problems (this video is no longer available)?
July 13, 2008 – 2:33 pmI’ve been receiving emails this weekend letting me know that some prophotolife videos are coming up on YouTube as “no longer available” for certain viewers. I haven’t pulled anything down. Anyone else having problems? A quick search revealed this post of potential fixes:

I’m not sure what’s up, let me know if you have any insight.
Thanks,
Jim T.

Hey Jim,
thanks for your concern and solutions to fix this. Fortunately I can still see all your videos

I’ve had a similar problem on my blog with one of my youtube posts but when returning to the video later in the day it was functioning again.

I saw this a couple times on Friday; but in each case I was able to see the video if I clicked through the Library instead of through the blog post.

Hey Jim,
I see this consistently when I do the following: (1) load a page into another tab; (2) wait a long time; (3) go to the tab and try to play the video.
The solution? Refresh the page, and the video will play.

Hi Jim,
I think “This video is no longer available” is just the default error message when the video stream can’t be loaded. I just reload the page until the video works. (I use the “popout” or “subscribers can view video here” link so I don’t have to refresh the entire page.)
Sometimes it’s taken as many as 12 refreshes, but I’ve yet to find a “no longer available” video which wasn’t actually there. (There are other messages, of course, such as ‘terms of use violation’ which mean the video really isn’t there.)
So, basically what NormMonkey said before me: keep refreshing and it’ll play.
I really appreciate the excellent site, Jim.

Thanks, guys, it sounds like there are easy workarounds. The best one at the moment for me appears to be Vimeo.
NormMonkey, back in the house! I just got back from gnurple.net and admire your summer, it sounds like you’re keeping busy and staying out of trouble.

read part 1 and part 2 here. there’s no real solution yet.
